After enjoying the Castlecrag post from the photographic blog 52 suburbs which creatively documents a different suburb of Sydney each week, I stumbled upon a house for sale in Sydney designed by Walter Burley Griffin, the architect who won the 1912 competition to design the layout of Australia's capital, Canberra.

Inside Out magazine

Thank goodness for Inside Out magazine - the Nov-Dec issue is about to arrive bringing me Australian summer and gum trees in the doom and gloom of the English winter.

Dusky pink versus powder blue

These are 2 colours that I don't often use in the home (or wear) but they are on my list of favourite colours all the same. I think the dusky pink comes out as my favourite at the end of the day - even though I would love that blue Aga.

Kim Parker

Kim Parker is one of those designers whose work will always be loved for its spontaneity, happy colours and originality. I haven't ever seen any design that looks so natural and hand-drawn which can be applied as decoration to almost anything - rugs, cushions, tableware, cards, paintings and furnishing fabrics. (I would love some bedsheets designed by Kim!) She has now been featured in many homes magazines around the world and her designs are much loved. She has even illustrated some children's books!

Bold rooms

It's so refreshing to see boldly coloured rooms expressing their owner's personality. I firmly believe in not suppressing any whims when it comes to decorating ones own home, and if bright and bold is what you are, then it should be expressed! Colour has such a strong effect on us and it's important to get it right. But once you decide on the hue that resonates with you, go for it! Here are some inspirational examples.
